DR. STAN NNOCHIRIONYE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
Current Spring Only Scholarship Dr. Stan Nnochirionye was born in Nigeria and died on January 30, 2019 in Ada, Oklahoma. He came to the United States to seek graduate studies and retired as a professor from East Central University. Dr. Stan came from humble beginnings and made the best of the many opportunities provided in his new country of residence. He was well known as a soccer coach of the first women’s intercollegiate soccer team at ECU and the founder of the ECU Soccer club and the Ada Boys & Girls soccer club. He was one of the founders of the International Connection Club and an advisor for the African Caribbean Student club. Dr. Stan was fondly known by many as “Stan the Man” or “Mr. Soccer”. He was a compassionate, intelligent, hardworking, fun-loving, and cheerful person. To commemorate Dr. Stan’s life and legacy, the family, friends, alums, and students have established this scholarship for international students. The recipient must have attended 2 full semesters at ECU to be eligible. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate leadership and service both within the community as well as the University. Recipients must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8 or minimum graduate level GPA of 3.2. Students from African or Caribbean Countries will be given first preference. This scholarship will be awarded for the spring semester and the recipient must be planning to attend ECU the following fall semester.
