DR. GUNAR NAIB BOHAN SCHOLARSHIP

Fall Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to students with a declared major of Biology that are classified as a junior or senior.  1st preference will be given to women who plan to attend medical school.  2nd preference will be given to students with a minimum 3.5 GPA or above.  This scholarship is established by the grandchildren of the late Dr. Gunar Bohan in her honor and memory.  Dr. Bohan, who like her father, placed a strong emphasis on education especially for women.  Dr. Bohan, originally from Alep, Syria, was the eldest of four children (three of whom became physicians) and was the first woman to graduate from the American University of Beirut (an American chartered institution) with a medical degree in 1944.  Dr. Bohan was a WW2 war bride who was a highly respected public health physician at the time of her death in 1988.
